Life’s a Carnival

MIstral Musings Blog

Can you believe it’s nearly the end of August? It’s felt more like April with all the rain and storms we’ve had this month, but the good news is that the forecast is looking much better for the rest of the month and bank holiday weekend.

What better way to celebrate before the kids start heading off back to school than with a good old-fashioned carnival celebration.

Notting Hill Carnival is one of the UK’s most famous street carnivals (and it’s free to attend). Each year, close to one million people attend this celebration of Caribbean heritage. This year it kicks off at 6.00 am on the 25th August with a traditional carnival opening which includes a children’s parade with children dancing and performing in ornate costumes. Sunday is the best day for families with young children with smaller crowds of people and plenty of fantastic floats and amazing costumes to inspire and enrapture you.

As always, the Grand Finale will be on Monday, August 26th with a culmination of dancing, street performances and steel drum music groups.

To really enjoy this carnival, make sure you wear comfortable shoes such as our no lace Victoria plimsols, but if this event is a step too far for you why not create your own carnival party or at least get in the mood and dress up in vibrant colours and accessories.

Here at Mistral HQ we love colour and pattern and we have some gorgeous accessories perfect for your carnival celebrations at the weekend.
