Winchester Cathedral

A Little History

Winchester is a beautiful maze of cobbled lanes and halftimbered buildings and packed full of lively markets, traditional olde English pubs, cosy cafes and artisan shops. Winchester is also home to Winchester Cathedral, the burial place of Jane Austen and King Arthur’s Round Table. There really is something for everyone!

Market Time

Winchester is home to some brilliant markets - ranging from homemade jewellery and vintage clothing! Usually held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday - the markets are a must! And, of course, there are the beautiful Winchester Christmas Markets that are definitely worth a visit this winter.

Cathedral Crypt

On a rainier day, you can head to the Cathedral Crypt where Sir Anthony Gormley’s eerie sculpture entitled ‘Sound II” has stood beneath the Cathedral since the late 1980s. During the rainy months the mysterious sculpture can often be found holding water cupped in its hands, silent in contemplation as the level rises around him covering the stone floor.

Places to Eat

Head to the Coffee Lab, a hidden gem tucked off the high street. They have the best chocolate brownies. 6 Saint Thomas Street. Winchester @coffeelabuk - Instagram

We also love Piecaramba - a super fun comic themed pie and mash shop! They offer loads of veggie and vegan options too. 11a Parchment Street, Winchester @piecarambauk - Instragram

Fancy something a bit more quirky luxury? Then try out The Ivy Brasserie. Cool interiors and an eclectic mix of furniture. And amazing food of course! 103-104 High Street, Winchester @theivywinchester
